Death Case

Death is nothing but a transition of a living being from one state of existence to another. This is a scientific statement. But, because human beings have feelings, they get emotionally attached to their loved ones. This feeling of attachment makes any living being sad when a loved one dies. It is a feeling of losing someone forever. Even though we know that the dead is never going to return, and that we have lost that person forever, we tend to have a hope for the return of that person. And that is why people cry and think of the dead for weeks and months.

Every person has different perception about death, though. We were given the chance to interview an elderly client who had her youngest child die many years ago. At first we had some trouble in communicating because she speaks in pure Bisaya although she understands a little bit of the Tagalog language, we even had to ask one of her sons to translate it for us and also, Lola Nelly has some hearing problems, but it the end we were able to get the information that we need.

For Lola Nelly, death is like a race, a matter of who will reach the finish line first. She felt very weak when her son died; according to her, it was very painful - especially in the part of a parent, a mother. We can feel that she is still sad whenever she thinks about what happened, but she pretends to be strong. Much of the pain of death for the living comes from the sense of loss. It marked an end to all the possibilities for her, at one point, she even felt like she lost all her children but she realized that they were always there for her which made her accept things and just move on.

Elderly people have a better perception about death. They may have a hard time grieving but time will come that they will accept it and decide to continue their lives and be happy.
