It affects how you feel, think and behave and can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems. You may have trouble doing normal day-to-day activities, and sometimes you may feel as if life isn't worth living. Depression isn't a weakness and you can't just make it stop. People with depression may need long-term treatment. It's a condition you can treat with medicine, by talking to a therapist, or by making changes to your lifestyle. It is said that the development of major depressive disorder may be related to medical illnesses such as cancer, stroke, diabetes, and myocardial infarction. People with these illnesses are likely to develop major depressive disorder sometime during the presence of their medical illness. Manic depression, also known as bipolar disorder. This is a brain disorder that causes shifts in moods, energy, activity levels, and the normal day-to-day life. Those who are diagnosed with bipolar disorder may go through periods of depression or mania. Also, they may have mood swings, and experience intense emotional states that are called “mood episodes.” There are four different types of bipolar disorder: Bipolar I Disorder, Bipolar II Disorder, Cyclothymic Disorder, and Other Specified and Unspecified Bipolar and Related disorders (this category is bipolar disorder symptoms that do not match the other three categories.) Postpartum depression is diagnosed in mothers following childbirth. There is not a certain cause of this depression but it’s said to be from the combination of hormonal changes, and the psychological adjustment to motherhood.
