Racial Discrimination
The type of discrimination that i found was of racial discrimination or racism which is to discriminate against a person because of their race or usually their colour. The discrimination was against a coloured woman who was a nurse at the hospital and was called to work for her night shift. The lady that gave birth in that time spoke to the employer of the nurse along with the dad of the baby who requested that their baby was not to be attended to by any African-American nurse. The parent even went far enough to put a note on the carrier discriminating against the coloured nurse saying she cannot attend the baby because she was African-American. This request was approved by the manager which showed the encouragement of the discrimination and was then removed but the nurse never did attend the baby for the month it was in the hospital.
Some of the effects of this incident were that it created a sense of nostalgia for the woman that was discriminated because it was linked to the times where the black people and white were separated and given labels even though she never experienced the situation before. This also had a change in the facility which was determined to fix the problem and even change things to adjust to the situation so the situation does not repeat. The nurse Tanya Battle who was the one being discriminated felt very hurt and uneasy so she could not just tread it as just a simple incident so she decided to speak up so da all the community and the society can know what happen and realize things really are.
I can use my voice to ameliorate the effects of these injustice by speaking up and helping others to get through the discrimination. By making society more aware of these things and the things it can do to a person this may help minimize the injustice. Even by having the people getting together more and sharing getting to know different persons and having them realize that we all can live together in peace as long as we think things through and put aside the differences.
