Discrimination
Why is it that humans still get judged on there appearance? Why is it that some humans are still being discriminated against because of the country they are from? We need to stop all this because we are all God's creation and he made us no better then anyone else. This is one of the main themes raised in the Chrysalids novel and this essay will be discussing that point.
Hurricane Katrina was a devastating event. Hundreds died and thousands more were injured. During Katrina, a lot of racism took place, mostly against African Americans. In a yahoo article, they wrote a young black kid was finding food but yahoo wrote it in a different way. "A young man walks through a chest deep flood water after a looting a grocery store in New Orleans on Tuesday, Aug 30, 2005." Two people were doing the exact same thing but they were white and Yahoo stated that they were finding food. "Two residents wade through chest deep water after finding bread and soda from a local grocery store after Hurricane Katrina came through the area in New Orleans." Why did Yahoo state that the black kid was looting and the white people were finding food? They were both looking for a food to survive, so at a time like that, you can't really justify as one for looting and one for finding, that's just racist and unjust. Yahoo should have stated both as finding food or looting food if they wanted to be fair.
Ever since 9/11, there has been discrimination against Arabs all over North America. At a job interview, one lady reported that she was asked her religion and nationality during a recent job interview. Another lady was fired from her job because she is Muslim and she is taking unlawful dismissal action. Why should Muslim women be discriminated against, there hasn't yet been any incidents of them being in any terrorist attacks. At some schools, teachers let go of racist comment indirectly towards Muslim students. There is something being done about this, there is a youth partnership that is bringing people of the Arabic background together and they are achieving things on both personal and professional level. This partnership also informs young people of their rights and equips them with skills to deal with issues about racism.
