Paper1: Karma

Do you think that if the doctrine of karma were true, that it would provide a just solution to the problem of why bad things happen to good people? Thoroughly explain why or why not.

I believe that karma is true, which is the moral law of cause and effect. For example, when someone does something bad such as cheat on their significant other it can come back to them in their next relationship. It could be the same with good karma, if you see someone drop something, such as money or a wallet and you return it, something good will come out of it. My reasoning for my answer being correct is that what goes around does come around whether the karma comes back to you personally, or to someone that your close too.  Of course, with everything else there is always a philosophical reason why something is correct. In this case, karma is really hard to define from a philosophical point of view, where it doesn’t involve reincarnation because of certain religions such as Hinduism and Buddhism. I disagree with this belief because, I like everyone else has their own beliefs and religion.  I myself am catholic and the catholic church does not believe in karma it is more of a reap what you sow concept, and in the bible, rejects reincarnation where you as a human being only live one life and if you sin you will go to hell or if don’t you will go to heaven. A bible verse of Hebrews 9:27 states” Just as a man is destined to die once and after that face judgement. This bible verse makes a purpose of two points which if you are catholic or Christian, you don’t believe in karma and reincarnation. We only live one life and aren’t given two chances and also after life you face judgment’s. The objection of Karma that I found is what Hinduism’s belief of Karma is “Good acts leads to better rebirths and bad acts leads to worse rebirths.” In Hinduism it also states that “Karma determines everything that happens in life because it is punishing us for what it made us do in the first place” My reasoning for this objection being wrong is because it only applies to Hinduism and Buddhism and  not all religions whether they believe in reincarnation or not . We are our own people and we make our own decisions , just like are making on whether or not karma has a role to play when it comes to why bad things happen to good people .
