Envision a world of fantasies where all your sexual desires are easily accessible. Where no really means yes and where you are not looked at differently because you're sexual hunger could only be satiated by "vulgar" or "kinky" activities. Or maybe you're the sort that needs a bit of a thrust because you're too shy so you have been given the opportunity to explore all you like until you reach your pinnacle. You could walk out in the street and if you see someone that excites you, you are able to walk up to them and do whatever Ð'- literally mean whatever Ð'- that will fulfill you with ecstasy. Or if your doorbell rings and you open it to find a very attractive person standing there for whatever reason you could just pull them in and fill your day with a grinding festival. Unfortunately life isn't like that well at least for the majority of us it isn't.
There is only one world so why is it different for each person? The answer is simple the world is a different place for each person because each person visualizes it in their own perspective. The previous paragraph may be considered a bit extreme but there are many people who think that the world is like this, which is the reason why there are so many rapes in our society today. So what leads people to think this way? All the factors are not known but one of the factors is the excessive amount of presentation of lurid and sensational material (put I n a source). In the past decades pornography has been bombarding our lives whether it be visually or even audibly to the extend where a great populace around the world have not only become addicted to the obscenity but it has caused a faze to cloud their sensibility to the breadth where one feels that the other is always willing when in realty that is not of truth, which may lead to violence or unwilling sex: rape.
What causes rape? Why is it existent in our society today? What is it about our society that makes rape one of the fastest growing crimes in our country (-)? To understand this we have to look at the basis of rape. When a man usually rapes a woman it is because he feels that he is superior and a woman should be grateful rather than unappreciative to the action that female is receiving. The University of California Ð'-Davis Rape Prevention Education Program (RPEP) drafted an educational document that outlined some of the sociological causes of rape. The author's of the document say that the high rate of rape in the United States is largely due to the result of "traditional sex roles" that place women in a subordinate position in our surrounding society (-).
When you address whether or not pornography actually causes rape or any other type of violence people tend to forget that the actual making of pornography most of the time involves sexual assault or violence; there are even testimonies of actual porn stars who agree with this. In one case, a man who said that he had participated in over a hundred pornographic movies testified at the 1986 Attorney General's Commission hearing in Los Angeles, California stated "I, myself, have been on a couple of sets where the young ladies have been forced to do even anal sex scenes with a guy that is rather large and I have seen them crying in pain." Another witness also gave a testimony at the same hearing said, " Women and young girls were tortured and suffered permanent injuries to answer publishers demand for photographers depicting sadomasochistic abuse. When the photographer inquired of the publisher as to the type of depictions that would sell, the photographer was instructed to get similar existing publications and use the depiction therein for instruction. The photographer followed the publisher's instructions; tortured women and girls accordingly, and then sold the photographs to the publisher. The photographs were included into magazines sold nationally in pornographic outletsÐ'...(-)."
It is not to say that violence occurs only in the making of violent pornography. However it would be the same as placing it in the way that smoking is not the only cause of lung cancer; nor is pornography the only cause of rape. There are many factors that play in the role of this malicious crime but it is true that many men that watch pornography excessively carry the characteristics of a rapist. Evidence has been cited that 25% to 30% of males admit that there is a likelihood that they would rape a woman if they would be assured that they would get away with it. Also a greater percentage of males would like to rape a woman but there internal inhibitions wouldn't allow them to. However pornography weakens the very inhibition of those who wouldn't commit the crime making them more prone to do so.
Objectifying Women. Feminists around the world have been mentioning that one of the reasons for rape is because "women are being objectified." Males tendency to objectify women make it easier for them to hurt or even rape women. Other psychologists have observed, "Dehumanization of victims is an important disinhibitor of cruelty towards others." A rapist was quoted saying this during his trial of conviction; " It was difficult for me to admit that I was dealing with a human being when I was talking to a woman, because if you read men's magazines, you hear about your stereo, your car, your chick." Another rapist said of his victim, " It's simple I wanted this beautiful fine thing and I got it." The dehumanization of women that occurs in pornography Is at times not recognized because it is disguised with sexuality. The objectification of women is not only violent pornography
