Hello Gentlemen of the Supreme Court. I am Dred Scott. I am here today to ask for one thing and one thing only. That one thing is my freedom. Here are three of my reasons.
One reason why you should give me my freedom is I have lived on free soil for a very long time. I have on free land as long as some white. Also my master died when I was on free land so that should make me free.
Another reason is that a court in St. Louis said I was free. This made me a free man. Another white man in your own courts said I was free. That's why I deserve to be a free man. Your government and my master set me free in his will, that's why I deserve to be a free man. This is why I deserve to be a free man.
My final reason is I faithfully served my master for many years. And in his will when he died he wanted me to be a free man. Instead of giving me my freedom, I was sold to an army surgeon and brought to the free state of Illinois. One of your own set me free in his will and you didn't obey it. I deserve my freedom. Also freedom to me is food to a pig; I don't care how I get it as long as I get it!!!!
Gentlemen of the Supreme Court thank you for listening to what I had to say. Also I thank you in advance for giving me a fair trial even though I am a black man. Thank you and have a nice day.
