Unisys is dedicated to delivering precision thinking and relentless execution to drive clients' business transformation. With a 132-year history of excellence Unisys strives for the following operating principles: external obsession, best or nothing, invent the future, be bold, team for speed, and deliver or die. Unisys is comprised of various creative, technically excellent, and tenacious individuals, these people help businesses and governments apply information technology to achieve new levels of competitiveness and success. However, there are various factors that influence or affect the functions of management; E-Business, Technology, and Rapid Change.

E-Business

E-Business impacts Planning, the first function of management, by requiring Unisys to develop their business plan to include services that are available electronically as an option to their client. Unisys offers so many services; I have chosen to focus on the Weather Information Services of Unisys. As Unisys houses the system that collects and compiles the meteorological data, it provides the data electronically to its clients. By providing this service, Unisys provides a service that can reach a far greater client base.

Organizing is impacted by E-Business by requiring the organization to have a dedicated department to not only develop their product, but, to provide support to it as well. For example, Unisys needs to staff a dedicated team of meteorologist to analyze the data it provides through its Weather Service.

Leadership is impacted and impacts E-Business in a variety of methods. First within Unisys there must be clear lead roles. In order for the company to remain competitive there must be someone to push the organization to better their services whether it is to provide more data, faster data or customizable data. But, also, the services that are provided by E-Business can allow their clients to gain a competitive edge in their industry, thus becoming leaders in that industry.

Controlling is what I believe to be the function that receives the greatest impact from E-Business. As data is released electronically, there must be a myriad of controls in place to ensure that not only is the data correct, but, that the network structure in place to support that release is available when needed. As I mentioned earlier, there are businesses that depend on upon this data in order to succeed and thrive. Without a strict set of controls those businesses will begin to fail and seek other suppliers. Through set standards and pro-active service Unisys can be sure to provide clean data.

Technology

Technology is constantly changing to meet consumer's needs. This leaves management to constantly reinvent them selves to compete in today's competitive market. Companies must focus not only on internal measures but also the external factors to be successful. Let's use the cell phone industry as an example. With the introduction of the cell phone, it started out as a big bulky portable unit you could use everywhere. Consumers were no longer bound by a copper hardwired into their homes. In order to market this technology, companies had to comply with strict FCC regulations. This was one external factor that influenced how the company would create their technology. Who would find this portable telephone most useful.

Frontline Managers will monitor the progress and errors to Middle-level Managers. They will also interact with their employees on a day to day basis of that specific organization.
