There are over 93 parks in 26 neighborhoods in the city of Providence, Rhode Island. The Providence Parks Department has worked with many groups around them to become closer to their goal of keeping their parks active, and building community spirit. They do this in the development or redevelopment of their parks. With being successful, the Parks Department feels that it is essential that each park has an active volunteer group that teams up with the city to support, contribute, and maintain the parks surrounding us. This year's Earth Day is scheduled for Saturday April 26th and it is a day where many people from different communities come together and serve their community by visiting the parks and trying to restore them in every way possible.
For the "Second Annual Earth Day" Event, I would go about it the same way as this upcoming one where the volunteers are broken up and divided up between each park. Depending on how many volunteers I can get and the amount of parks we can visit that day, I will have about 7-10 volunteers at each site. The sizes of the parks vary in size and some may be larger than others however, with more volunteers at each site, the faster and better the restoration of the parks end result will be. I would set goals before the event to have something to strive towards. My goals for the event would be to get at least 7-10 volunteers at every park in providence that day, and to spread the word about the cause and make an impact to our volunteers so it will make them want to help out again.
We may plan for a smooth event however there are always external and internal forces getting in the way. Some may wonder what could possibly go wrong while engaging in such a good cause. However, it can be anything. The weather plays a huge factor in our Earth Day Event. We are hoping for a clear, sunny day but if it rains then our Earth Day may be ruined. There may be an issue with our volunteers as well. Just because we may have a high number of volunteers, something always comes up and those who said they will be there simply might not be able to anymore. However, about 4-5 months prior to the event, I will start marketing/advertising it to ensure the best outcome possible. To make people in the environment and local communities aware of the upcoming event, I will post flyers, go to local events/schools and have a crew with me to talk about the event with others. This will also be a good time to share our ideas
