Easter Island
Many years ago a small Island was found in the middle of the ocean. It was soon named Easter Island and held many mysterious questions that were yet to be answered. The island had a population of 2000, and when it was discovered, had no plants, no animals bigger than insects, and huge abandoned stone statues. Easter Island slowly collapsed because it was over populated, and they inhabitants had no environmental plan for the future.
The first lesson to be discussed about Easter Island is over population. The small island was only about sixty-four square miles and was very over populated. Easter island ran out of resources and had too many people to care for. The world today is starting to overpopulate rapidly and we can definitely learn from the mistakes made from the Islanders.
The second island to be learned from the inhabitants is environmental planning. When the natives first inhabited the island there were many tropical palm forest and good land to harvest on. After many years with no environmental planning the natural resources began to decrease. All of the wood was used for shelter and firewood and all of the land was harvested the people had nothing to turn to. We can learn from this so that the history from Easter Island does not repeat itself and we learn to plan out the environment for the future.
The fall of Easter Island was from the mistakes of the natives and decisions mad about the island. The land was overpopulated and there was no environmental plan for the future. These lessons teach us how to control our world today so that the same problem that occurred on Easter Island doesn't happen to us
