Introduction

Our team has been assigned a new task to enhance our effectiveness of the present information systems used in the sales department of the company we work for. The reason for this assigned task is because the present systems are a bit outdated. The company, Party Plates, is presently using Microsoft® Excel® to keep track of all personnel data, but is interested in moving to a relational database like Microsoft® Access®. Our team will propose usefulness of converting Microsoft® Excel® data into a relational database using Microsoft® Access®, the benefits of using Microsoft® Access® in the work environment, and suggestions for the future use of collaborative software and how it can help the sales department improve communications and streamline work processes.

Benefits of Using Microsoft® Access® in the Work Environment

There are many benefits of using Microsoft Access in the work environment. Firstly, it is cost effective, since it is frequently presented to numerous business owners as a component of Microsoft Access Professional package for an affordable price with other useful software programs("The Benefits of Microsoft Access Database for Your Business," 2010). Secondly, Access can be used with other software programs like Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel, which lets the person create documents. Microsoft Access in addition prevents data duplicates and helps in preventing errors in data entry ("The Benefits of Microsoft Access Database for Your Business," 2010). Access allows one to produce relations between tables, which guarantee the data is normalized. Rather than having to put records or data in whenever a new assignment is started, Access stores thousands of records for you to return to when needed, making it a time-saver as well("Advantages of Microsoft Access").
