Book Title: Ender's Game
Author: Orson Scott Card
Prompt: What have you learned in this book that can pertain to life? Use examples and cite evidence.
In the book, Ender's Game, by Orson Scott Card, some of the information gleaned from the text can be applied to life. In one instance, Ender admits why he beat Stilson, a school bully, so badly that he had to go to the hospital. To the question "Tell me why you kept on kicking him. You had already won" Ender answers "Knocking him down won the first fight. I wanted to win all the next ones, too, right then, so they'd leave me alone." This can be applied to life because people have to stand up to bullies. People have to fight back and not get pushed around, either accomplishing that by actually fighting back or telling someone with higher authority.
Another example in Ender's Game that can pertain to life is present in Chapter 10. Colonel Graff says to Ender, "I hope you are, because we're forbidding you to transfer any of them." This forces Ender to work with the soldiers he was assigned instead of trading them for possibly better soldiers. This can be pertained to life because life is not always fair. It would be fair to be able to trade away soldiers; it is not fair to be unable to trade.
A final example of something that can be applied to life is shown in Chapter 9. Peter says "Val, we can say the words that everyone else will be saying two weeks later. We can do that. We don't have to wait until we're grown up and safely put away in some career...We can get on the nets as full-fledged adults. with whatever net names we want to adopt, if Father gets us onto his citizen's access." He says this about an idea he has, about pretending to be adults on the internet to put out political ideas that could change the world for the better. This piece of evidence pertains to life because sometimes lies are needed to accomplish something good. In conclusion, books are not all fiction. There are some segments of text that can be applied to real life. Ender's Game is one such book. It has plenty of information that could be potentially useful in the world.
