The author clearly states that recess is a mandatory and important part of school. Recess is a time when kids, let loose, party it up, and discuss what has happened in the day. Recess also lets kids get some fresh air. After being inside for so long kids need to get outside for fresh air to help them relax and get away from school work. Here are some more reasons that the author thinks kids should have recess.

Also kids need time to unwind, and get away from the typical 6-hour school day. Recess is thirty minutes long before, or after lunch. Two out of five schools has eliminated or seriously considering getting rid of recess. As the author stated teachers want to get rid of recess so there will be more learning time. If kids aren't given time to unwind, they will rebel. And or get distracted easily. Also many kids are 30 percent overweight or obese. Recess is also an excellent exercise time.

Recess is a time where you have to stand on your own two feet. Sure, you may get picked last. But you have to learn to defend yourself because if you never do, you'll be shocked when you get into the real world. For instance: a college professor does not like you, and you can't switch out of the class. If you never grew up, you would most likely complain and cry. However if you've learned skills you will have most likely figured out a positive solution. A huge part of life is experiencing disappointment, if you never had it the good things in life you wouldn't enjoy as much.

I may not be an expert, but from my personal experience when I look back on 4th 5th and 6th grade going to school without recess would have took away the heart felt memories I hold so dear to myself. As you can tell recess is an important part of school. The author of the article thinks recess is mandatory and I agree one hundred percent. If us kids are never taught to be independent and a young age how will we know how strong we really are.
