...continued voyages... Aug. 23rd, 2005 @ 02:07 pm
Here in Jihlava, CZ, I have just eaten 2 pastries, a funny hot dog whereby a hole is cut in the end of the bun and not down its length, a HEAP of french fries, and a coffee with 3,5 grams of sugar, so im giving myself t-30 minutes to blast off.
I have now finished my first star trek book, translated from english to german, and it sure was a good laugh. Here is my synopsis of one story:
original title §The Omega Glory§, translated to §Omega IV§
An away team, consisting of Cpt Kirk, Spock, Dr. McCoy, and Leutenant Raintree (guess which one dies) boards the USS Exeter to investigate its unresponsiveness. Later, they find themselves on the surface of Omega IV, caught up in a conflict between two tribes of primitive humanoid (German speaking) locals.
They try to talk their way out, but finally Kirk must fight a one-on-one, handcuffed, knife-fight, battle-to-the-death to win their freedom. Victorious, JT Kirk spares his foe, and takes a moment to explain to the locals that their §sacred expressions§ are in fact garbled segments of the Preamble to the Declaration of Independence, and so if you are all created equal, you shouldn't
be fighting each other like this, damn it! Finally, Kirk taps his communicator, and Uhura sees to it that they are all up-ge-beamt to fly off to their next wacky adventure.

mmm... zrzmlina Aug. 20th, 2005 @ 03:36 pm
Yep, I just got into Slovakia (I skipped out on Budapest this time... ) and I just ate some delisch zmrzlina (thats 'ice cream' for those just tuning in.) Im going to ride into Bratislava today, and its still up in the air as to whether I will stay there tonight or not, or just keep ridin.
Yesterday i think i went about 150 km with a slight tailwind, new skinnier German Schwalbe tires that were made in Thailand that I bought in Godollo, Hungary for 16 euro, and some new bike shorts with a built-in diaper-thingy. All day there were menacing dark clouds all around me, but nonetheless the sun was almost always out for me...
Then at about 7:30 pm I was looking for a campsite as one such cloud started to push overhead. I found the perfect spot, and had just started putting up my tent when it simply DUMPED on me. It rained hard for 20 minutes, and then stopped... just long enough to soak my tent and my clothes. This is what the chinese call 'very bad timing.'

Im about 100km out of budapest, and I might just bike over there and take a train to wien like Leif did. Its been going well, and I have enjoyed zoning out on my bike on the BEAUTIFULLY FLAT roads of middle hungary. And the cars dont even honk at you as much here!!!

» Westward Ho! he-ya!
We were kind of like cowboys, Chester and I. Riding around the countryside, cooking om a fire, making coffee by pouring hot water on grounds (with milk and sugar of course). But out here the wild is out east. Time to go back to the tame west. I should be back in Dresden on the 20th, and then fly to NY on the 26th, then fly to NM on the 5th, pick up my dog (I miss my baby!!!) and say hi to mom. and then fly home to MN on the 15th.
