Brief:

Students are to investigate a need of their choice and then apply the design process to the need and solve the problem. Your 3 dimensional solution needs to be in a proposal format and will need to be approved by your teacher. Your chosen product needs to fit within one of the 10 contexts of the Technology Studies Course

Situation:

When considering both the brief and the client's needs I have proposed the idea of creating a mirrored jewellery stand. The mirror can be used to compare jewellery with outfit, other jewellery and makeup application. The box should have velvet lined drawers for smaller items, as well as hooks and slits for necklaces and earrings. Each piece will have its own place so that the jewellery will not knot or get damaged. With storage in the drawers and insides of doors the storage space is maximised so the area of the box will not have to be as great.

Client:

The client is a female young adult, approximately 5'3" in height, with an average amount of jewellery in need of a place to store it all. Due to the limited space in her bedroom, she needs a jewellery storage space that has maximum storage in minimal floor space. Due to her collection of different jewellery types, the storage space will need a designated space for each type. She would like different places for her necklaces, long and short earring, studs, rings and other items.

Constraints:

* Costs Each product requires different budgets and though the school supplies us with $30.00, the rest of the budget needs to be supplied yourself. For those who are unable, or unwilling, to spend the extra money lower quality, quantity or inferior products will be used. This constraint affects the final product as it changes the final design and quality; affecting the life of the product. Though value for money is a good option, budget restraints should not affect the overall quality of the product.

* Equipment Schools only have a limited amount of machinery that is to be shared among all the students. This will impact on the designs and manufacturing of the product. The resulted product may be different from first planned because the required machine may not be readily available so the outcome and processes used will be different unless the machine is found elsewhere.

* Materials and tools

Materials and tools are also required to finish this project. You not only have to know how to use them, but have them available to you and a medial amount of knowledge of their properties, what you can and can't do with them, safety requirements and proper care. If this is not known you can damage the tools and materials, or harm the people around you as well as yourself. If the tools and materials are not available to you the product may not be completed properly, how you or the client may have wanted it, or unable to be finished at all. Before choosing on a design you must first know if the tools and materials are available, and research each of them to better understand them. This requires forethought to link the research to each design so they that are made with the tools and materials available.

The MSDS Include:

* fire hazard levels * allergy considerations

* first aid care * other things that need to be considered

* reactions to different chemicals and skin

* Quality The production quality is another constraint affected by equipment and knowledge. Can the quality standards be kept high with the available tools, materials and your knowledge and skills? The overall design and completed product are affected. If standards are not kept high then the brief and the client's needs are not met. If this happens the product will not appeal to the client, therefore client needs will not have been met. To prevent this from happening your skills and available equipment must be taken into consideration before choosing a final design and then starting a project you may not be able to complete.

When planning out a project all safety
