People choose to attend universities to get a higher education and gain higher wages with the skills that they acquire at school. There are many obstacles that students undergo in order to graduate from four year university schools. If the university of Houston in downtown would extend the hours of the library and the gym these resources would benefit current students. To achieve a higher education the library would enhance cognitive thinking and allow more time to do homework and study for quizzes or exams. The gym on the other hand, would allow students to have positive hobby that would help them release more endorphins and feel more comfortable when it's time to take a exam.
How many current working students have a class that is after 5:30 p.m? There is on average 80 percent of adult students that attend classes during the night. The daily lifestyles of every student varies. Some have to work from 9-5 p.m and then head out straight to campus to attend 1-2 class every day. The students need to work so that they can maintain household expenses that vary between, gas, food, children, and tuition. After attending any class their is always homework assigned or quizzes that students need to prepare for. Their is not enough time for the average population of students that juggle between work and school to study or exercise after their classes is over because the campus close hours are limited. The current hours of operation of the library are from Monday-Thursday 7am to 10 pm,Fridays 7am-6pm and Saturday 9am-6pm and Sunday 1pm-6pm and the gym is from Monday-Thursday from 7am to 9pm, Friday 7am-7pm and closed on Saturday and Sunday. As you can see the hours of operation are very limited. Only students that are attending day classes are able to take advantage of these buildings. To better assist the majority of the students the hours of operation should be extended to midnight and 7 days a week.
Having more hours to access the library allows more students to be able to read more physical books and become more informed. Some students are not able to buy a book for their class, so they go to library and check one out and try to get as much studying as possible.The student is forced to gather as much information as possible while working with a small limited amount of time. Trying to rush does not help with the students learning. The access to wi-fi,computers and printers helps students to research
