English Cyber-Neologism’s influence on Chinese Language

Online, English has become a common language for users from around the world. In the process, the language itself is changing. English has the highest usage rate on the internet about 28.6 percent, and about 800 million people use English on the Internet. The second is Chinese, with 23.2 percent, and about 650 million people use it on the internet. When it comes to content languages for websites,W3Techs estimated percentages of the top 10 million websites using various content languages as of 19 November 2017. According to W3Techs, the top languages for content are, respectively: English, Russia, Japanese, German, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian, and Chinese.

Therefore, with the progress of Chinese network science and technology and the exchanges between countries around the world, Chinese cyber-neologism inevitably has to be influenced by English cyber-neologism.

1.A large number of English cyber-neologisms are introduced into Chinese as foreign language，we usually put WWW before domain, but a lot of people don’t know what it stands for. WWW stands for World Wide Web, is a system of interlinked hypertext documents that are accessed via the Internet. Similarly, BBS stands for Bulletin Board System, is a new kind of media, through which we can share information and exchange emotions. PC means Personal Computer. FAQ means Frequently Asked Questions.IT means Information Technology.

2.A large number of English Neologism are translated into Chinese to represent new concepts and things

Those worlds are translated into Chinese in the following ways.

1. Transliteration, means to convert words from English to Chinese with a close approximation in phonetic sound. Such as fans is translated into 粉丝. Nowadays, the word is not only exists on the internet but also appear on the newspaper, magazine and now generation’s talking. The usage of the word is expanded from the internet into daily life. Modem(Modulator-demodulator)is translated into猫，because“猫” is more concise and humanized.
2. Free translation， for example，information superhighway which refers to digital communication systems and the Internet telecommunications network is translated into 信息高速公路.

3. The ways of English Cyber-Neologism formation are introduced into Chinese

These English Cyber-Neologism are widely used by Chinese Internet users and

some words have gradually integrated into the Chinese vocabulary, mainly because the following characteristics of English Cyber-Neologism.

One is concise and quick. In the Internet age, people's life rhythm is more and faster, how to communicate and exchange information in the shortest time is an urgent problem for netizens. People have adapted some English words and sentences to create a concise network language for fast input and communication purpose. IT is much simpler than "network information technology".  MP3,DVD, BB,UFO,www are the same with it.
