Film review
The video shown in class followed the lives of three separate cases. One case
dealt with a women and man who were addicted to drugs and alcohol. They were married
with two small kids. The women entered a program after her release from jail. She was
doing good in the program until she had a relapse. Her husband also had a relapse and
went on a drinking binge. They both were having problems but seemed to be overcoming
them with time.
The next case was of a couple who both drank heavy together. They seemed
normal and you would not think they had an addiction, but they did. The couple would
tell themselves they would only drink a little, then end up blacking out from the alcohol.
The were unable to save money because the drinking would keep them for work the next
morning. In counseling the team of counselors used methods we discussed in class. They
used reflective statements so the couple could confront their problems. The couple broke
up in the end. The women said she cut back and had her drinking under control. The man
went back to college to finish.
The third case was of a women and her out of control daughter. The mother was a
recovered drug addict. The daughter was following in her mothers footsteps. She stayed
out all night, partied, and drank. She wasn't going to school or working. She went to job
core and was doing fine until she came back for a break. She stayed home and went back
