The article, The Four Traditions of Geography written by William D. Pattison, helped me

grasp a bigger point of view about Geography. It was composed of traditions that I didn't have knowledge about. My whole life, I thought Geography was just about reading maps and understanding different people from different places, but it was more than that. Geography was more complex than I realized. The first tradition, spatial tradition, had mapping, analysis in areas, patterns, etc. Area Studies Tradition we're about describing different regions and their people and how these regions were different from one another. The third tradition, Man- Land tradition, was about the relationships of mankind and nature- how nature affects humans and how humans affect nature. As what Pattison had said, Man - Land tradition was about the perception of environment. The last tradition, Earth Science tradition was more on a physical geography. It studied how the earth was a home to us humans. It also included the Lithosphere, Hydrosphere, Atmosphere and Biosphere. I disagreed with what had Pattison said about professional geography and pedagogical geography being different. They both study mapping, boundaries and densities. Though the professional geography requires more time to study about geography, you have to "dig deeper" to be a professional geographer. Professional geography requires more devotion to Geography, as what I understood in the article. While pedagogical geography is about geographers who teach geography. I think Geography is an interesting study. It has a lot to learn from. You can't learn it right away, it really takes a lot of time. The traditions make it more interesting because of how it is divided, but at the same time related to each other. I think Architecture can be a big help in Geography because it requires drawing and mapping as well. Geography also has quantitative techniques like architecture. Architecture studies about culture of different people in different regions to know what designs to draw. I think that I can relate architecture to geography because there is geography everywhere and that everything is related to Architecture.
