BUSINESS REQUIREMENT DEFINITION
Licensed Software Tracking and Inventorying
Microsoft Inc. has entered into an agreement with The Business and Information Services Department (BISD), through the Johns Hopkins University-APL (JHU-APL). "The Microsoft Educational Enterprise Contract (MEEC) allows desktop computing within The Johns Hopkins University - APL Environment. This contract allows the Business and Information Department to possess some of the most current and completed office computing tools available. The MEEC also gives the opportunity for all faculty and staff who uses the Microsoft products on their institutional computers, to obtain the same products for home use. Only faculty and staff of JHU are eligible to use the software. "The cost of purchasing software in bulk has proven to be a great financial savings for JHU-APL costing roughly 75.00 per desktop.
BISD is responsible for servicing over 3,000 customers within JHU-APL by installing MEEC products and desktop support. Some titles of software include:
Windows Operating System (98, NT/2000 Workstation -Upgrades Only, no Full versions);
Microsoft Office Suite (98 for MAC, Premium 2000); and
Microsoft FrontPage (PC/MAC) Microsoft Visual Studio Professional
The MEEC agreement has established a process, whereby hundreds of licensed copies of software will be delivered periodically. BISD has to come up with a better tracking system to alleviate the currently chaotic situation of misplaced and misfiled CDs.
Tracking and inventorying MEEC software is the task of the database management application. The anticipated result of this project will be easier access and copy control. The database will be used by Management, Application Software Engineers (SLAs), and the Data Entry/Database Manager.
