TEAR STRENGTH TEST

The property of paper or fabric that is measured by the force required to tear it.

Apparatus used – “Elemendo of” Tear Strength Tester Maximum Capacity 6400 Gms.

Sample Size – Cut both warp and weft wise of size approximately 4”X3”.

Readings

Observation no.

Weft Wise

1.

23% of 6400 gms

2.

23% of 6400 gms

3.

23% of 6400 gms

Average = 23% of 6400 gms

COLOURFASTNESS TO WASHING

Colourfastness to washing is the ability of fabric to retain the dyes used to colour them when washed.

Apparatus used - Laundrometer

                      Grey scale

Sample size – 10cm X 10cm (Main Fabric)

                10cm X 10cm (Bleached Fabric X 2)

Readings

Weight of Swatch = 1.4 gm

Solution Required = 70 gm

Greyscale reading and Bleached fabric = 4/5

Result

Based on the result of the colourfastness test, we can say that the fabric almost completely retained the dye when washed.

COLOURFASTNESS TO CROCKING

Crocking is the process of transfer of colour from the surface of coloured textile material to other surface by rubbing.

Apparatus used – Crockmeter

Sample Size – 8” X 3” (Main Fabric)

                  2” X 2” (Bleached White Fabric)

For both dry and wet test

Readings –

Observation no.

Grey Scale Reading (Dry)

Grey Scale Reading (Wet)

Results –

Fabric is resistant to high level in dry state and leaves no colour in dry state, whereas in wet condition, the fabric leaves very little colour and is low resistant to colourfastness in wet state.
