George Washington was born on February 22, 1732, on the family plantation in Virginia. As a kid, George Washington never had much of a formal education. Most of his knowledge and self confidence came from his older half-brother Lawrence.
Lawrence was educated in England. After the death of their father in 1743, Lawrence was the surrogate father. Quickly after, Lawrence married into the Fairfax Family. Washington was introduced into the rich and powerful world. After about 10 years, Lawrence died, which led George to move into Mount Vernon, the large estate that George Washington has stuck to his name.
After the move, George Washington enrolled into the military and became a major thanks to Colonel William Fairfax. After a war, Washington retired back to his estate and married Martha Curtis in 1789.
Washington’s political life started in 1759, where he served in the Virginia House of Burgesses until 1774. George then served as a delegate from 1774-1775. As you know, George Washington became the first president in 1789. Washington was offered a $25,000 salary but he declined it and later accepted it. After a successful term Washington became president for another term. Washington today, remains the only president who had 100% of votes and no competition.
In conclusion, George was a great man, after he retired after his presidency he died with a throat infection in December of 1799. Even with a tragic death, George did a lot to make the U.S. What it is today.
