Gym Etiquette
Proper gym etiquette is essential for productive and enjoyable workouts. Too often a lack of basic consideration can diminish your gym experience. Tarah, Andrew, and I, Shannon, all went to the YMCA to do this assignment and this was one of the main things we observed. We even interviewed a man who commented on this. His name was Mike and he was forty years old. He said to us, "As a personal trainer, I make a living by working with different people in different gyms. It is always a nice environment, as well as a relaxed atmosphere. However, there are still rules that apply and are not always followed." These rules are:
Ð'* RE-STACK AND PUT AWAY YOUR WEIGHTS
Always re-stack your weights and return dumbbells to their correct location. This makes it easy for others to use after you. Also, weights and dumbbells lying around can be hazardous to yourself, as well as others.
Ð'* WIFE OFF PERSPIRATION
Always use a towel to wipe away perspiration and clean the exercise machines after you use them. This is basic hygiene and can be done very quickly. Usually, towels are provided.
Ð'* AVOID EXCESSIVE SOCIALIZATION
While it is nice to meet people and make friends at your gym, try too avoid too much socialization. Not everyone is looking for this interaction. It can be distractive, as well as disruptive to other people working out.
