Hades was the god of the underworld. He had two brothers, Zeus and Poseidon. They divided the world between the three of them. Zeus got the heavens and was god of all gods and humans, Poseidon got the oceans, and Hades got the underworld. There are many things people don't know about Hades like what kind of god he was, who he really was, and how he stole his wife Persephone.

In the first place Hades was, as stated above the god of the underworld, but what kind of god was he? Hades was known to most as the god who took the bad people of earth to Hades, but that's not who he was. Though Hades is where the dead go it is not like hell, which is where the bad people of earth go for eternal torment. Hades is where the good the bad young and old journey and there are levels of Hades which is not like Hell. Hermes the messenger god is the one who shows the dead the way to the underworld. Also people gave Hades another name because they were afraid of his true name, his other name was Pluto. Pluto means enriched one he was given this name because he lives underground and that is where all of the enriched soil and nutrients are.

Also people don't know who he really was. The way he became god of the underworld was that him and his brothers each drew straws to choose who would get what, and Hades got the underworld .His parents were titans whose names were Cronus and Rhea .Now even though the underworld is a dark and scary places Hades never left it. He was barely ever seen which his name Hades, the unseen one was. One of the only times he came to earth was when he came to steel Persephone away from her mother, Demeter goddess of agriculture.

In fact Persephone was the daughter of Zeus and Demeter which meant that she was his niece. Hades didn't care if she was his niece though he still wanted her. So one day when Persephone was out Hades came up from the underworld on a chariot and kidnapped her. Once he had her in the underworld he offered her a pomegranate as a trick and she ate so she had to stay with him forever, because by eating the seeds it symbolized their relationship. So of coarse her mother was angry so she made all of the land on earth barren and told Zeus it will stay that way until Persephone is back. So they came up with a compromise for two seasons of the year Persephone would be on earth, and the other two she would be with Hades, making the seasons.
