Halloween, the second most commercialized holiday in America behind Christmas, is now part of culture in many parts of the world. The holiday where witches, black cats, haunted houses, and carved pumpkins come alive at night. But where did the origin of this horror holiday come about? Turns out, it came from the Ancient Celts.
These Ancient Celts were a group of Christian mystics who worshipped nature around 2,000 years ago. And when the end of the year would come, they would throw a huge party called Samhain, named after the Lord of Death. The end of the year as they thought was October 31st. This New Year marked the beginning of winter for them and the arrival of what they thought would be ghosts. Their priests, called Druids, would predict the future for the harsh winter when these ghosts would come around. These Celts would gather around and tell each other's fortunes with animal hides and skin as they wore it. Eventually, the Romans got to conquering them and bobbing of apples came to the tradition. Finally, Christianity came influenced the tradition last when All Saints' Day was created to honor the saints and martyrs. All hallows eve was the day before, and eventually it turned to Halloween.
In conclusion, the combination of cultures beginning with the Ancient Celts created Halloween. Along with the migration of people that practiced this tradition all over the world.
