Have you ever had an experience that marked a scar upon your life? Many are constantly haunted by their past experiences, yet many are left with momentous, thankful moments. On the other hand, these experiences usually convey valuable lessons that are essential towards one’s life. I learned my most vital lesson when I had to choose between duty and pleasure.

It all started on a stormy Thursday night. Alarmed by a phone call, my anxious mom informed me about my grandmother’s uneasy condition. So, I rushed to my grandmother’s house to watch over her. When I arrived to the house, I went inside and for the first time her dog did not great me delightedly. Instead, I saw it shedding tears as it kneeled beside my grandmother. She looked like a tree shedding its leaf in the dark winter. I promptly hanged  my coat and went to the kitchen to make some soothing chicken soup for my grandma. While I was preparing it, I heard the dying ringtone of my phone and answered it. It was my friend Brandon who’s as carefree as a child unleashed freely in a park. Brandon asked me if I wanted to go to a huge party at his place. I struggled and struggled to decide whether I should stay here or go to the party. Eventually, I couldn’t resist rejecting this bewildering invitation. Even though, I felt uneasy about it, I started my car and headed to the party. As the door opened wide in front of me, all I could observe were people dancing, jumping, and bumping into each other to the load, thundering music while colorful lasers were beaming around me clueless of what will happen.

After a while completely forgotten about my grandmother, I received a call from my parents making sure grandma and I were fine. I told them that everything was fine, however it wasn’t. Few moments, my neighbors were calling to tell me that grandma’s dog was barking uncommonly. I feared the possibilities and hastened to ensure everything is fine. While I was driving, I was terrified by what could have caused the dog’s behavior. After I arrived, I saw an ambulance in front of the house; the paramedic were carrying my grandmother into the ambulance.

Concerned, I went and asked what has happened to my grandma, and he replied saying that she had a stroke at least 15 minutes ago. Feeling extremely guilt, I went with them to the hospital, praying. She was sent to the intensive care unit followed by several doctors and nurses. This is where I felt as if I betrayed heaven and went to hell. Thankfully, the doctor came to me after she was treated and informed me that she was going to be fine. As soon as I was able to, I apologized to my grandmother and I told her that I would look after her till the end of life
