The two main characters in this book are Jimmy Winter and Seth Burham. Jimmy is a awesome baseball player. He does not stop giving it his all until the blue calls, " ball game". If he is up by fifty runs, he still does not stop. If he is down one hundred runs, he still plays like it is a tied ball game. He became very popular when he made varsity and he was the best one on the team. Even though he was in high school, he played as if he was in the Major Leagues. Seth Burham was also a very well known baseball player. Seth had the intelligence and was in the honors program at school. Seth had A's his whole high school year and was so smart. He knows everything you should and shouldn't do in baseball. Seth and Jimmy were best friends and they played baseball together. Seth's father died, so they moved to San Francisco. Jimmy and Seth met at Henry Ford Park one day. Jimmy asked Seth if he wanted to play with him and his father. So Seth said yes and then they became best friends. The setting is Henry Ford Park and this story starts off when they were twelve years old and in the sixth grade. They both went to Wood Side High School, as they got older. In this book the initial conflict is that Seth's father dies and they had to move to Red Wood City in San Francisco. This is not much different from out time, it is all the same. Nothing has changed in my opinion.
Seth and Jimmy are alike and different from this friend I know. I do not want to state his name. First, I am going to talk about Seth. My friend lost his father at the same age and they both moved because of that reason. One day, I was at the park and he was playing baseball. I walked over to him and asked to play with him. He was really into baseball. Just like Seth, he is amazing at baseball and he knows the sport really well. He plays the game exactly the way it is supposed to be played. He is different from him because he is not that smart. He makes bad choices and decisions. If he tried a little harder, then he can make it somewhere big in life. I just hope he sticks to it because he is awesome at baseball. He is just like Jimmy; he really has true talent and could go anywhere to play baseball. He does not ever get scared of other teams and he plays his hardest every single time. He does not care is he is down twenty runs or up thirty runs. He stops when the blue calls, "ballgame". There is one bad thing about Jimmy and my friend. They both like to party, get drunk and drive. In the book, Jimmy dies and I just hope that my friend starts making better decisions. If he does, then he could do anything he wanted in life. He needs to start hanging out with only people like myself, get his mind right and then he could be a great person. I just hope that he ends up being just like Seth and not Jimmy.
Both of the characters that I have chosen have changed in the story. Seth has not changed as much as Jimmy. They were friends as soon as they met on the baseball field. They played together all through high school and had a really great bond. During high school, Jimmy started to drink and go to parties. He forgot about Seth, started hanging out with other people and that was not a good decision. If he would have stayed hanging
