High Prices of Competitive Soccer
There’re kids all over the United States who miss out on chances to play the next level of soccer just because they don’t have the money for it. Therefore, Competitive soccer should be made cheaper in the united states, so all the children across the country who have missed out on their chance to play at a higher level could play and maybe even increase their chances of pursuing soccer as a career.
Playing for a competitive team can get you out in the world and seen by many coaches from those of college teams, semi-professional teams, and even professional level soccer teams. In the past 4 years, Killeen itself has had 2 Players go and play overseas for a semi-professional and professional team, and 2 other players have made it to that same level here in the US.
Competitive soccer varies in range of price depending on the club you play for, for example, one of our local soccer clubs Lonestar cost 1,400 dollars for a year and that does not include uniforms, while one of our other local club Tri-county costs about 600 dollars with uniforms for a year which is still expensive, but these prices are just the minimum prices. Depending on the level the team is playing at the price could increase by 100, 200, or even 300 dollars. Now if we were to look at clubs playing at the highest level and competing against those at the highest levels it would cost you thousands to play, and I don’t know about you, but I don’t just have 2000 or 3000 dollars just sitting in my wallet.
Due to these high prices at least 2-3 kids for every club every year end up not playing or trying out as it is because they can’t afford to pay, sometimes a kid will have even played competitive soccer for a while and just stop playing because their parents don’t have enough money to pay for them to continue playing. A lot of the kids I’ve seen not play due to money issues have been very good players, and if they continued to play I could see them playing in college and maybe even playing in the MLS (Major League Soccer) or USL (United Soccer League) And all teams from these levels pay you to play. Therefore having these players playing soccer as a career but if they can’t afford to play at a younger age they won’t get the experience they need to compete and play at this level and will get stuck doing and working somewhere completely different.
Although Competitive soccer clubs are expensive did you know most clubs offer scholarships for those players who can’t afford to play, and they also offer monthly payments, so you don’t have to pay a lot of money all at once. Thus, allowing every player who makes the team to play whether they are rich or if they are poor.
Every club as of what I know offers players scholarships, but of course, you must qualify for them. What these scholarships do is give every player an equal opportunity to play and do something that they either enjoy or that they love. Scholarships for soccer work the same as they do for college where they completely pay for you to play, or the partially pay for you. But now if the scholarship barely pays for you and all that money is still too much to pay all at once every club offers you monthly payments that are flexible based on how much you can pay. This allows every player no matter how much or how little their parents get paid to play and enjoy the beautiful game of soccer.
