Is college a big high school? To me college has plenty of similarities and differences to high school. In college and high schoolevery semester counts towards your GPA at the end of the year. Of course both placesare where young adults come to learn and further their education, have various amount of test, andhavedifferent programs to help you succeed further in your life and help complete obstacles that has not been accomplished. However, high schoolis where your grades count the most. Also, high school has the same teachers year round and they actually take the team to work with students one on one. Whereas,in college the classes is based around what a person want to be in life; also, with the student living on campus it gives them more of an learning environment and a free atmosphere to study. Finally, college gives the student an inside look on how it will feel living on your own, whereas in high school the child or young adult is living with and adult and/ or parent guardian.
In spite of the differences in college and high school, they bothare still alike in a way. Of course botheducational places have students that want to further their education. There were children in high school during extra credit assignments after school to boost their grade in a class; which, in fact in some courses in college a student can also do extra credit depending on the teacher or the classes the student take. Also, high school and college take a variety of test; fromtaking Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) to midterms and finals. These specific tests or quizzes testout what the student has learned throughout the year or the semester. Finally, in most high schools I know of there is a gifted program, International Baccalaureate program for the students that want to be in AP/IB courses that will allow them to get college credit, and they have early college which allows the students to take their junior and senior year at a community college and get their Associates Degree.Atcollege there is a scholarships, internships, and programs that tutor you in a field of your choice.
At the same timesimilarities college still has a major difference from high school. Collegehelps students get a better insight ofwhoand what they want to be in life. For instance, I am a first year criminal justice student and I want to be a lawyer; so, all of my classes is based around learning about the law. My classes are Anthropology, Intro into Criminal Justice, American History, and Political Science which all helps me learn the background of different laws and crimes and how certain pieces of the puzzle of crime fits into place; basically saying how the history lines up and how laws was but into play.
