In the story "Hills Like White Elephants" the man and girl are arguing the entire time, but what are they arguing about. The story makes me think that they are planning to do something illegal, because the man keeps saying to the girl that "you don't have to do anything that you don't want to do." If they are planning something illegal why would they be arguing about it so loud about it without directly saying what it is there doing, that could be that part of there plan is to get caught. The man also seems like he needs to have control of the girl and have her do what he wants her to do, but at the same time he seems to care about her enough to let her do what she wants to do. Also when it comes to the man trying to control her I think that the reason that they seem to butt-heads so much is because she is so independent and that scares the man, because he thinks that she is going to leave even thought she made it clear that she will not leave and that she wants to be with him everyday.
Why is that the country is so brown and dry but yet the hills look so lush and "white"? One possibly is that they are going through a drought and only taking care of the hills because they don't want the whole country to be brown and dry. Another possibly could be that they planted something on the hills to make them look or appear to look white.

The last possibly could be that since the hills are white they have become the countries landmark and want to keep them looking nice for the people visiting the country.
