Hinduism
This was a very interesting religion to read about, reading this chapters opened many closed doors of me. I now understand what Hinduism is all about and why my parents pushed me so hard to learn about our culture. I grew up in a family who strongly believed in Hinduism I remember listening to my father tell stories about our culture and having to obey every word. Listening to my father tell stories about our culture was hard because of the wordings my father would use. However, the number cause of me not understanding the culture was because I felt pushed into it. I really did not have the interest of learning about a culture that did not understand.
I also remember watching a television series that came on television in 1994, it was on one of these pre paid channel so the reception was not that clear but every Sunday morning the family would have to get up at 8 am and sit in front of the television for hours watching this show. The picture did not come in clear at all; it looked like it was snowing through out the show. For my sister and I we were having a hard time understanding this show because the picture was awful and second we have no idea what the people on the show were saying. After reading the chapters in this book, I now know what we were watching it was the stories of Ramayana and Mahabharata, the two great epics of all time.
The epics of Ramayana deals with the play of good and evil this epic tells the story of the royal couple of Ayodha-Ram and Sita and a swarm of other characters and their heroic acts. After reading this story I felt kind of stupid every year in October we celebrate Diwail which Is the number one celebration in India. Diwail stands for the celebration of lights It wasn't until after I read the chapter on Ramayana I found out that the reason behind the Indians celebrating Diwail is because of Ram safe journey home.
The epics of Mahabharata the world's longest epic poem deals with the power struggle between the Pandava and Kaurava families with a link of plentiful occurrences that make up life. This story also made my feel a little retarded also because I found after my reading the chapter, that because of the Mahabharata epic our whole bible the Bhagavad-Gita was created.
Our family listens to my father read verses from this book once a week I never new, where this book came from until this week.
