How would you handle it if one of your loved ones were to be killed by someone who shouldn't even be here?  Or have you had financial issues while still paying for these unwanted guests? Illegal immigrants have been a problem in the U.S. for a long time. Many people however, argue that America is built on accepting all immigrants and that everyone in America was once an immigrant. With the growth of the U.S. and the plethora of new crimes America needs rules and regulations on immigration. These "undocumented" citizens are hurting the economy by taking Americans jobs, committing needless crime to innocent people and even their own kind, as well as taking billions of tax payer money.

The U.S. prides themselves on the economy and the value of the American dollar, but this could all be for not, due to the problem of illegal immigrants fleeing to our country. As Fitz and points out, 'Earnings gaps between undocumented immigrants and U.S. citizens is far more significant than most people think". This is because immigrants are doing the same amount of work for less money. As Camarota states in his book, "The vast majority of illegals hold jobs. Thus the fiscal deficit the create for the federal government is not the result of an unwillingness to work." The illegal immigrants by holding these jobs are taking them from U.S. citizens. They also are taking lower pay for the jobs as well. This gap in wages is devaluing the American dollar’s value because jobs that would cost more to do by are being done for less by the illegal immigrants. Illegal immigrants are then taking the money they earned and instead of paying taxes and paying for Medicaid they are buying clothing, shoes, cars and other luxuries for themselves.

Tax payers are responsible for the growth of the country and in many ways responsible for the benefits that America gives to its citizens. However, for many years now the benefits have been going to the wrong type of people. These undocumented citizens are not paying taxes and also for Medicaid, but they are still getting benefits such as welfare and free lunches in the school systems. Expenses to pay for them comes from tax payers, costing over 9.5 billion dollars annually(Camarota). This includes federal prison, use of the court system, and the biggest contributor is Medicaid(Lee). It is not because of a lack of money that they are not paying taxes it is more of a loop hole. Since they are undocumented they are not on the taxing system, thus allowing them to get away with not paying taxes. The loop hole is making it so that the illegal immigrants would rather stay illegal and not pursue their citizenship. Illegal immigrants are not only stealing the jobs of American citizens they are stealing their money as well.

They are stealing money from Americans everyday. Through them taking their jobs and in turn taking their money. Trained professionals are getting replaced with illegal immigrants because they are taking less money for the work. As Lee states in his article on illegal immigration, "...the unemployment rate increases the number of illegal immigrants holding jobs increases as well". This is due to the fact that there are jobs people aren't willing to do but immigrants are. Some might say this is good, but it is still taking money away from America's economy. This increase of jobs being held by Illegal Immigrants might put the finishing touches on America's economic system(Camarota). People may also say that if they are doing the job no one else wants to do then they should be allowed the chance to become a lrgal citizen. This would heavily drain the government immensely and burden the United States economy.

Many people still believe that the legalization of these immigrants would be for the benefit of the U.S. However, this is a common misconception on what the consequences would be if they were to do so. In Fitz article he quotes UCLA professor Raúl Hinojosa-Ojeda and he claims "Legalizing our nations undocumented immigrant population...would add a cumulative $1.5 trillion to U.S. GDP over a decade...These big gains occur because legalized workers earn higher wages then undocumented workers, and they use those wages to buys things...As more money flows through the U.S." Pro. Hinojosa-Ojeda does put down facts and has valid points toward the issues with illegal immigration but in the end they are simply untrue. Yes, money would be coming back to the government but not in taxes or in Medicaid. It would not solve the problem of the money being lost by the tax evading citizens. The legalization of the illegal immigrant population would allow more drugs and crime into the U.S. as well.
