Their were many contributing factors in the rise of fascism throughout the early 1900's especially in Germany. The biggest factor that contributed to the rise of fascism in Germany in my own opinion was the harsh treatment that Germany received during the Treaty of Versailles after World War I. They took all of the blame for starting World War I. After that I feel that the Great Depression in Germany had the most significannot
impact on the rise of fascism in Germany.
To talk about the significannot
rise of fascism in Germany we first have to define fascism. Fascism is a nineteenth century ideology. It started to come out in 1870. Fascism is a totalitarian state to the extreme right of the political spectrum. Fascism generally occurred in countries that had already experimented with socialism, capitalism and democracy and failed. Germany did experiment with all of these political ideologies and failed miserably with them all. The biggest idea passes by a fascist state is that the "state is greater than the sum of all of its individuals." In fascist Germany they had a saying "Deutschland Uber Alles." Which means Germany over all!! In a fascist state you never tell the truth. The bigger the lie you tell to the people the better off you are. Hitler told the entire world that the Arian Race was the most dominate and greatest race in the world and everyone else was inferior, that seemed to work for him he was able to rally all of Germany to feel the same way. In a fascist state you never want to reason with the people, the leader should use emotional outreaches to rule. Fear is the most useful emotion to rule with. People respond tremendously to fear. If the people are afraid of you they will do just about anything that you want them to do. Possibly the second most important ideology in a fascist state is an appeal to racism. Germany felt that they were the superior race in the world and everyone especially the Jewish race was inferior. Ludwig Claus portrayed this feeling of superiority in his book The Nordic Race which he wrote during the highest point of fascism in 1937. Besides fascism having a few big ideologies fascism has a few key characteristics. A fascist state is very imperialistic, they take great importance in owning territories all over the globe. They want to achieve global domination. Fascist states are also very militaristic, you have to have achieve a great military to achieve successful imperialism. You need a great military to take over and rule foreign territories successfully.
Out of all contributing factors to the rise of fascism in Germany, I feel that the Treaty of Versailles was the biggest factor. The treaty of Versailles was very unique in the fact that it was not a negotiated treaty. Woodrow Wilson spearheaded the treat proceedings and he pretty much said this is how its going to go. The Germans took a harsh blow from the Treaty of Versailles at the conclusion of WWI. The treaty places all of the blame on Germany for starting WWI. Germany took a severe blow to its economy when it was forced to pay reparations for the damage that had occurred during the war. The reparations were so extreme that it forced Germany into a depression. Germany took another extreme hit in its military. They were forced to get rid of their navy and air force, no only that but their army was reduced significannot
ly. With the depletion of their army Germany lost a lot of their territories. Germany lost all of their territories in Africa, along with Alsace Lorraine which they had taken from France only years before. Germany was also reduced
