Mental health and emotional well-being plays a major part in one's life. As humans, we face emotions and events on a daily basis. We can only safely say that we are emotionally and mentally stable when we are able to persevere through difficult situations while staying positive. By fulfilling our needs to become mentally and emotionally healthy, we are more likely to be prepared to face unfathomable situations in life. There are several ways to improve one's emotional and mental health.

First of all, it is important that we partake in activities which provide a relaxing and calming effect on our minds. Yoga, which is a form of low-impact physical exercise, is known to be therapeutic. Yoga sessions typically consist of a combination of physical exercises, breathing exercises and meditation. ("All kinds of yoga", 2010) When one practices yoga, one reaps multiple benefits. Examples include the reduction of stress levels and health conditions.

In addition to that, laugh therapy also proved to be an unconventional yet effective approach. Norman Cousins is a famous writer and editor who suffered from a chronic illness. In his bid to overcome the disease, he decided to try laugh therapy. He found that the treatment was effective as his condition was improving rapidly. (English & English, 2004) This shows how effective laugh therapy is as it has a symptom relieving effect on a patient.

Lastly, to overcome depression, one can achieve emotional and mental stability by using five ways namely; doing something positive, helping others, scheduling joy, working out consistently and brightening one's day. (Buckley, 1990) Daily tasks when broken down are likely to be more tolerable. Human contact plays a vital role in overcoming depression. To seek human contact, one has to be outgoing. By interacting with other people, one can indulge in leisure activities and rule out the issue of isolation.

To sum it up, I would like to stress again on the importance of possessing balanced emotional and mental health. In order to maintain a sound mind, we could always follow the steps listed above. Furthermore, we can conclude that anyone can overcome the instability of an emotionally weak mind. I, for one, believe in mind over matter. We should not let our emotions make the worse of us but rather countering it with these methods so that we can live life to the fullest.
