In 2014, tobacco, alcohol, paracetamol and caffeine have contributed to over half a million deaths worldwide. The amount of people who died from cannabis miss-use is outstandingly zero. So why is it that a drug that is free of any man-made chemicals and that has been proven to help sufferers of AIDS and cancer, to name just two debilitating diseases, still illegal?
Its medicinal use is varied but is mainly utilised for general pain relief, chemo patients and AIDs sufferers who are wishing to gain weight for the benefit of their health. It offers a natural alternative for the relief of excruciating pain and does so without a cocktail of chemicals such those contained in morphine and xanax. Furthermore these drugs have significant side effects that have been known to exacerbate illnesses but marijuana, as I stated earlier, will not kill the user.
It's medicinal use in first world countries such as New Zealand, The Netherlands and parts of the U.S. have yielded positive results so, in 2015, if Australia is to become a part of this cutting edge medical breakthrough, it surely has no choice but to legalise it's use. Legislation also ensures the strict control and quality of patients dosages effectively eliminating the black market that is prevelant with it's recreational use.
Additionally, the cost involved with the use of medicinal cannabis compared to marinol (a prescription drug given to chemo and AIDS sufferers) is significantly lower. A daily dose of marinol has an average cost of $38 whilst environmentally friendly marijuana costs just $17 for a daily dose.
