Incident at the Pool
I heard a heavy splash of water and a crying scream filling me with horror. This sound locked my joints with chill and the beautiful cool water instantaneously turned into an enormous frightening blanket that slowed down my every move. As I turned around, I saw Gerald holding onto the railings with one hand, while the other hand wiped his exposed bloody chin. On the spur of the moment, I saw myself reaching towards him. I got out of the pool and casted him out like a black bear fishing for salmon. By now, the throbbing sensation of my heart was sizzling towards the top of my throat, deafening me with a pounding fear. I thought he was going to take his last breath in my hands. He would not stop screaming as I carried him home. Immediately, I strolled towards the kitchen, taking a clean piece of cloth and blotting it over his bloodstained chin with my trembling hands. At contact, tears began to race down my face, and at that moment, it seemed like I had felt every possible emotion inside of me. I was angry at myself for letting this happen to my little brother and although I was scared, there was a part of me that was relieved that nothing worse had happened,
“Come on, you’re going to be fine, it’s just a little scratch. Don’t worry,” I said, trying to calm him down, rushing towards the phone to dial up mum.
“Mum, please hurry home Gerald is hurt, he’s bleeding.” I knew trouble loomed by for the simple fact that this had all happened under my watch. Mum came in fifteen minutes and saw Gerald sobbing softly as if he didn’t even have the strength to cry anymore, while I sat besides him holding his hand with my head angled towards the floor.
I was so glad to see my mom but she didn’t look very happy. The expression on her face was indescribable, her eyes, as blank as ever and her lips closed tightly leaving a line of wrinkle around her forehead. Without a word, mum lifted Gerald’s face carefully, closely examined the wound and rushed to the hospital with him. When they came back, I noticed his chin was carefully stitched up and bandaged. He came running to me, his grin overshadowing his face with a lollipop in his hand.
“Jrue, look, I have a bandage on my chin and it doesn’t hurt anymore!” said Gerald as he gave me a big fat hug. A flow of big relief tingled my body and I hugged
