The growth of the internet has a huge impact upon UK Book Industry. A book is a set or collection of written, printed, illustrated, or blank sheets, made of paper, parchment, or other material, usually fastened together to hinge at one side, and within protective covers. Each side of a sheet is called a page, and a single sheet within a book may be called a leaf. A book produced in electronic format is known as an e-book. The high street book retailer is a "thing of the past!" In this piece of writing it will analyse the factors that effect book industry and if high street book retailer would survive when compared to E-commerce.
The meaning of the term electronic commerce has changed over the last 30 years. Firstly electronic commerce meant the facilitation of commercial transactions electronically, usually using technology like Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT), where both were introduced in the late 1970s. In the 1970s and 1980s, this would also have involved information analysis. The growth and acceptance of credit cards. However, from the 1990s onwards, this would include enterprise resource planning systems (ERP). Today, it encompasses a very wide range of business activities and processes, from e-banking to offshore manufacturing to e-logistics. The ever growing dependence of modern industries on electronically enabled business processes gave impetus to the growth and development of supporting systems, including backend systems, applications and middleware. Examples are broadband and fiber-optic networks, supply-chain management software, customer relationship management software and financial accounting software. The emergence of e-commerce also significantly lowered barriers to entry in the selling of many types of goods; accordingly many small home-based proprietors are able to use the internet to sell goods. Often, small sellers use online auction sites such as EBay(tm), or sell via large corporate websites like Amazon.com, in order to take advantage of the exposure and setup convenience of such sites.
Books are all around us, surely book is like a friend sometimes makes you smile, laugh and even sometimes even cry. Book retailing in the UK is important as awards are given and celebrated the excellence book retailing across Britain. The ways of which the books have been sold would vary duo to technology and E-commerce. Electronic Commerce is analogous to a marketplace on the Web with the aid of Electronic Commerce (also called EC, e-commerce eCommerce or ecommerce) consists primarily of the distributing, buying, selling, marketing and servicing of products or services over electronic systems such as the Internet and other computer networks. There has been a change of methods and amounts of books that have been sold. In the old days it would be simple and time required method to get hold of books. Just go to the book store in the high street and buy the book. Now days there have been improvements of transport and internet use. Electronic commerce typically uses electronic communications technology of the World Wide Web, at some point in the transaction's lifecycle, although of course electronic commerce frequently depends on computer technologies other than the World Wide Web, such as databases, and e-mail, and on other non-computer technologies, such as transportation for physical goods sold via e-commerce.
Therefore books could be search easily on the web and be brought quickly and efficiently. This saves time as it saves the hassle going to the book store trying to look for the perfect book that suits the person. However this E-commerce system has a major disadvantage as before purchasing the product, the buyer wouldn't get the visual look at the book before buying so it might cause a slight problem if it doesn't match what they were seeking for.
High street book retailers will survive with E-commerce having bad points. There would be a positive view for the statement above because of number of reasons. This is the main traditional way of buying a book. This method has great advantages over E-commerce as customers could see the book and have a look around allowing them to have a chance to get to know the book in person. People who are in love with books, this method allows them to see different books in the high street which mean if they came to shop, this gives them a chance to just look at different category of books and not a particular book. However the greatest advantage of purchasing a book in a high street book shops is that if the book that you are looking for is in store. The minute you pay for the book, you will be able to take the book straight away. As still sum number of people does not know how to use the computer, they only have this method to purchase the book. The failure to follow a plan, poor follow-through after the initial planning and insufficient tracking of progress against a plan can result in problems. Also the failure to expect the unexpected like complaints from buyers. Too often new businesses do not take into account the amount of time, money or resources needed to complete a project and often find themselves without the necessary components to become successful which could happen to a business selling books with E-commerce. This could mean that it could be a highly fenced competition to open E-commerce book store.
Even if a provider of E-commerce goods and services rigorously follows these key factors to devise an exemplary e-commerce strategy. Consumers have accepted the e-commerce business model less readily than its proponents means that retail method has a great chance to survive and carry on. Product suitability of e-commerce have many disadvantages of e-commerce, one of the main ones is fraud. This is where your details (name, bank card number, age, national insurance number) entered into what look to be a safe site but really it is not. These details can then be used to steal money from you and can be used to buy things online that you are completely unaware of until it is too late. People are able to steal your identity, and commit more fraud crimes under your name. Therefore people who want a safety grantee would use high street book stores.
Even in product categories suitable for e-commerce, electronic shopping has developed only slowly. Several reasons might account for the slow uptake, Concerns about security. Many people will not use credit cards over the Internet due to concerns about theft and credit card fraud as mentioned above.
