This is a question that many people are seeking to have answers and most have not yet found the answer. Some people however have got answers from theologians, books, internet and other important sources of imformation that got them more confused about this issue more than before. All these sources of imformations are good but may not be reliable. The best source of imformation is The Holy Bible. Does the Bible proves or dispute the issue of Jesus being God?
First of all I need to establish a fact here that the Bible is the Word of God and that 40 people living at different times and places were moved by the Holy Spirit to put these 66 books together which is called the Bible over a period of 1600 years. Yet not a single verse of the Bible is contradictary. People have tried to destroy this book but it has been preserved all throughout the centuries. The Bible has brought about change in the life of people including me. There are certain prophesies that the Bible has made which has already come to pass. The rest of prophesies are yet to be fulfilled. With all this in mind you can rely on the Bible as a book that can give you answer to this question and many more.
Is Jesus God? God who is the Creator of the world choose to reveal Himself in three ways namely Father , Son and Holy Spirit. There are certain verses in the Bible that answers this question. Matthew 1 verse 23 is a quotation from the Old Testament which is Isaiah 7 verse 14. Jesus' name is Immanuel which means "God with us ".This passage clearly sows that Jesus is God. His name reveals that. In addition, only God has the power to forgive sins. While Jesus was on earth He forgave the sins of people. Example was the healing of the paralytic in Matthew 9 verse 2. Also God is the only one who knows the thoughts of people. In this same chapter Jesus demonstrated that attribute in verse 4. Finally when Jesus was resurrected from the dead,He appeared to the disciples going through closed doors at the upper room. It was here that Thomas encountered Him and declared"My Lord and my God". John 20 verse 28. If Jesus was not God and He is sinless, He could have rebuked him and told him that He was not God. Jesus did not rebuke him for making that declaration. These are just few areas in the Bible that reveals that Jesus is God and He will always remain to be God.
