a. Main Characteristics :

1.Highest power- Allah

2.Followers-Muhammed founded religion,

most revelations existed in oral form and were later codified

by Muslims after Muhammad death to form the Islam religion

3.Traditions-Hajj,pilgramage to Mecca at least

once in your life time, pray five times a day, fast during holy

month of Ramadan

4.Membership-Must follow the five pillars of Islam

b. Holy dates :

Ashura-Fasting, Moses saved Hebrews from Egyptians

and Noah left the arc

Lailat al qadr-night of power, Qur'an was revealed to

Muhammad by Allah

Eid ul fitr-Marks end of Ramadan

c. Things forbidden by religion :

- Cannot eat certain foods such as pork

- Cannot drink alcoholic beverages

- Encouraged to either free slaves or treat them as equal

- Men could have no more then four wives ,must treat the equal

- women restricted to one husband

d. Where the religion is followed in the world :

- Most Islam's live in Asia

- Followed by Africa

- By Russia

- By Europe

- By Americans
