Arab-Israeli conflict
Source A and Source B were both written a day after Yasser Arafat died. Source A was written by the Palestine cabinet minister, Yasser Abed Rabbo, source B is a quote from Yosef Lapid the Israeli justice minister.
Both of the sources differ because of who they are intended for and who the quotes were said by. Obviously the quotes are completely opposite because of the natural hatred and religion of both sides, due to the past, present and future.
Source A is a quote from Yasser Abed Rabbo. Because of history he feels that Yasser Arafat is the Ð''greatest person in human history' this quote is the feelings of most of the Arabs in Israel. They believe this because of Arafat's past. He fought for the cause with guns and stones in 1948, but then in 1968 Arafat fights for peace with the words that he says and the respect that he has from the Palestine people. Yasser Abed Rabbo was speaking to the Palestine people so it was bound to be very pro- Arafat.
The Jewish people feel that Arafat was a born terrorist. It all lead back to 1964 when he joined and became the leader of the PLO (Palestine liberation organisation) they fought against Jewish people with terrorism, however in 1988 they renounced terrorism but even though they did Jewish people still think that they were terrorist, and influenced many Jewish people to believe that the peace agreement wasn't resolved because of him. If I look at source B Yosef Lapid states Ð'' I hated him for preventing the peace between us and the Palestinians' this suggest that the main reasons why the Jewish people hated him was because if he did step down then the terrorist group would stop and peace could have a better chance of being solved.
Also source c shows use why Jewish people think that he is a terrorist and a obstacle to peace because of the speech that he made to the UN in 1974 Ð'' I have come bearing an olive branch and a freedom fighters gun. Don't let the olive branch fall from my hands' this suggest that he s willing to make peace but if its broken then his freedom fighters gun will be used to retaliate and use terrorism as a way of fighting. I get this link that he will use terrorism as a way of fighting by freedom fighters gun and feeling that he is to use his gun, then that wont just be it, there will be terrorism involved as well.
Sharon, part of the Jewish people well the Prime Minster would have been happy for his death as he calls him an Ð''arch terrorist' this would suggest that he feel that the peace agreement be achieved without terrorism.
The sources are both useful because we can see how the two different people on each sides think about Arafat who is on the Palestinian side. The sources are both biased because their strong opinion on how good or bad Arafat is, and how good or bad he is to the Arab-Israeli conflict, and solving the peace agreement. Even though both sources are biased they are still reliable to show how they feel about Arafat.
The different sources are intended for different audiences and would portray opposite views on Arafat. Source A was a quote from a cabinet minister. The cabinet minister was to Ð''announce the passing' this would mean that their would be a lot more speeches and announcements of Arafat's death. To me this would mean that their would be a big media interest, so because of this the and their intended audience their would be a very positive view on Arafat.
On the other hand source b was a source from an Israeli radio broadcast. Due to this it would be against Arafat and always portraying a negative view of him. This is because the two different sides are in a conflict with each other. The Israel government will make sure that the Israeli people do not feel sorry for the Palestinians buy mentioning Ð''the deaths of thousands of Israelis' to produce this negative feeling. This would make the Israeli government feel like they have the upper hand on the Palestinian government and people.
The person who wrote this was very fair. He had a unbiased point of view, however in source B he says that Ð''Mr. Sharon must have been quietly satisfied at the death of the man he called an arch- terrorist' this was pro Palestinian because it was portraying Sharon in a negative light. This was slightly biased because Mr. Sharon never actually said that he was satisfied. Even thought he said this I still think that they are fairly unbiased and very reliable sources.
I have come to a conclusion that Source A and source B are both valuable sources to find out why and maybe how to find the solution to peace. However the Jewish people feel that Arafat is a terrorist because of the things that he has done in the past and the Arabs feel that he is a freedom fighter and has to be like that to get what they want, which is their land back. Both of the sources show hatred between them both, and from this I feel that it will be along time until they solved the peace process in the Middle East.
There are many reasons why there is not peace in the Middle East. There are many factors being, refuges, the security fence, the illegal settlements but I feel that the terrorism and the extremism are the main reasons my peace isn't solved.
The first factor that I'm going to look at in my essay are the refuges. I can infer from source G that there are loads of refuges all over the middles east, but what I can't tell from this source is how many there are now in the middle east because the source is ten years old. Also we don't know what the conditions of the refuges camps are like. From my own knowledge I can tell that the refugee's camps were basic. They had makeshift houses which were provided by the UNRWA , this agency still looks after the camps today. This source is intended to inform people, form his I can tell that the writer is very unbiased because none of it is his own opinions. In my own opinion the source is not very useful, the reason being that it's very old. However it is valuable because we can make an estimate on how many refugees there are today and see if the situation is getting better, leading on to peace. From my own knowledge I know from other sources of information about the number of refugees are rising. This is because the Israelis government will not let them back in Ð''they will not return. That is out policy. They are not returning' this is because they would have to turn out Jews.
Secondly I'm going to comment on the illegal Jewish
