Jackson Sucks (The obvious, and not so obvious reasons)
If there was a website for this story it would be www.jacksonhighsucks.edu. Theres no other way to say it simplyÐ'...Jackson is the worst thing since Alf. Being a senior, that means I have been here for four years (Sadly, this is the only thing I have ever learned from this establishment.) Yes, that's four years of pain and misery, so I will detail to you why Jackson has been such a torture.
O.K. maybe it wasn't such a torture but you know what I mean. Don't get me wrong I love high school, and it will suck to be leaving this place to go to college (Western Washington University!! GO Vikings woo!!! Extreeeeme!) but at the same time I am ready to leave this dump. I constantly hear on a day to day basis in the hallways rants and ravings about how this school sucks, so obvious or not it is not only me. Everyone loathes school, but what makes Jackson so different that it sucks so much compared to other schools? I mean, what sets it apart that makes it so unique? Today I will bring up a couple points with you. Some reasons why Jackson sucks is because of the academic quality Jackson possesses, the administration, the ASB (Or lack thereof), the student body (YOU), and finally school lunches.
School lunches
First we will tackle the most important of issues I want to discuss. School lunches. A look at these lunches will surely disappoint any student. Not only a student, but if some Somalian kid were to dine at our very very fine five star establishment, they would be like "Whats going on? Wheres the food? I WANT THE FOOOOOD!!"
You often hear people rant and rave about cafeteria food, you could have heard this through movies, or just from peers. Jackson is no exception. While I will give the food here at Jackson a passing quality factor, the measly portions lead me to believe the schools on some type of welfare system.
Its about 11:30, and many students haven't eaten some breakfast, so they are starving. So starving they are at the point of eating REAL baby back ribs (*background noise* "that's what I'm talking about!") if you catch my drift. The lines are long and there is absolutely no space to even move. There is such a lack of space for moment that there is an occasional jerk face that is walking out with this food and bumps you with his turkey gravy platter and blotches gravy excrement's on to your face which scolds and blisters.
That's when you yell "Stupid Jerk face! I will get you next time!" Aside from the overcrowded lines there are those high prices on lunches. Two dollars for a lunch? Two- tweny five for a hot lunch? What is this world coming to? I would be A O.K. with the price of lunch as long as the food quality and portions were good enough. But sadly, the food quality is sub par, while the food amounts are meager like a concentration camp at best. An average lunch will be detailed with a burger, three potato wedge things, milk or juice, and a side dish. What is this garbage? Seriously, you think students will get full of this stuff? As a former fat kid(someone shouts out "FORMER?") I know my food. I know it like the palm of my hand. This is clearly not enough food. Food gives energy. Lack of food equals no energy. Jackson's lunches have lack of food. Students buy school lunch. Students die from lack of food. Maybe I am being extreme with the dying part but you know what I'm trying to say.
One could bring their own , and people do, but occasionally there are situations where students are too busy or parents are too busy to make a wholesome lunch.
Also the fact that the quality sucks is because of the district policies now saying we have to be healthier because of overweight kids. So all the blame cannot
be put on the school, but the school district. I pose this question as I conclude on this topic. Should students be penalized for other students short comings? Is it the school lunches that should be blamed for, or the general lifestyle the student lives out? If a student wanted greasy fat food, they could get it anywhere. Overweight students should not be burdening the majority.
Along with this lunch issue we have at school, the next issue is far more important than any food item is the ASB.
ASB/Leadership---Associated Student NObody
If the ASB were run correctly, I will simply put it, Jackson High School would not suck. If this reason alone was fixed everyone would enjoy school a little more. I was talking to a freshman a couple weeks ago about ASB. Supposedly the ASB sent out letters of nominees that they had been selected to run for office. Well, I thought the freshman would be happy, seeing how he was being praised for his achievements. But I was alarmed, the freshman was quite displeased with the nominee. He was saying how the ASB doesn't do anything, and that the ASB doesn't even give a flaming (beep) about the students. As I was trying to persuade him to run, that he could finally change that, I thought to myselfÐ'...this kid is right.
I have served in the Jackson ASB for three years. Whether that was being a class rep my freshman year, congress member my sophomore year, or held an actual ASB Executive Officer office. I have been through it all. I have seen the best from the worst, dealed with officer duties, to the lowly rep duties. I know what goes on in ASB.
I was saddened by my very minuet loss to the Presidency last year. Saddened at how I couldn't help the real problems we have at this school. But, now what I am more saddened is what is going wrong in ASB. What is the purpose of the ASB? I always thought it was to help the student body function better. Whether that means financially and emotionally, the biggest problem with the ASB is that we focus too much on the finances instead of the well being of the students. In no way am I saying finances are not important, a balance needs to be breached within these two. Surely, finances take a lot of time, planning and stress. There is also constitution revisions every year, just
