Introduction

The world is shaped by a great many things the largest of these world shaping factors is religion. When we talk about religion we must talk about the two most common Islam and Christianity. That is what we will be discussing today but not just the religions themselves, today we will be focusing on the most recognizable figures in these religions Jesus Christ and Mohammed I will attempt to separate out the fact from fiction in the history of there lives. This paper will trace the lives of these two prophets their deaths and how there actions set the direction of their respective faiths

Fact and Faith

First we will discuss the things that are provable by historical standards. The main source of information of the life and time of Jesus are the gospels of the Old and New Testaments of the bible as well as gospels not included in the bible It is a well regarded fact that a man named Jesus Christ lived and was born around zero of what is the Common Era and that he was saved from Herod when his parents fled to Egypt during the time of the mass murder of the children. There is very little on the early life of Jesus other than his birth and the fact he had been to Jerusalem with his parents. There is also very little about his early manhood years we do know that he was trained as a carpenter. The next time in history we hear of Jesus is at the age of thirty when he asks John the Baptist to baptize him. Jesus chose twelve apostles to spread the world of salvation. It is also fact that Jesus had to endure a gruesome death of crucifixion where he is nailed to a cross and left to die painfully.

Now to what is believed on faith. There are large amounts of events in the bible that must be taken on faith. The birth itself is miraculous a virgin birth even the date and location of the birth are in question. The time and place of the birth were prophecy in the Old Testament and thus the reason for the belief. Jesus has the ability to walk on water, heal the sick with his touch, feed 5,000 people with two loaves of bread and two fish, calming the winds of a deadly storm, and turning water to wine. While these actions seem miraculous it is required for these feats of impossibility to show that Jesus was the son of God and the Savior of man.

Mohammed in Islam is believed to be the prophet of god the last of twenty-five. They also believe that he is not to be worshiped only god is to be worshiped.

He was born in 570 CE in Mecca. His father died before his birth and his mother died when he was six. He was married with six children two sons and four daughters, both of his sons died ate an early age. Mohammed led a very simple life not accumulating any great amount of wealth and giving away the only things he had a piece of land and a white goat at the end of his life saying "We the community of Prophets are not inherited. Whatever we leave is for charity."

.When Mohammed died he had increased the following of Islam to hundreds of thousands of followers and he was revered and the life he led was probably what brought followers to Islam.

As in most religion proof of the claims of the prophets is required, Islam and Mohammed are no different. The way that Mohammed says he was given the Qur'an by a visit from the Angel Gabriel, ( http://www.islaam.com/Article.aspx?id=596) The splitting of the moon, water flowing from between his fingers, increasing the quantity of food and water, the glorification of the food, the palm tree yearning for him, stones greeting him, the talking of the poisoned leg [of roasted sheep], trees walking towards him, two trees that were far apart coming together and then parting again, the barren [and therefore dry] sheep giving milk, his returning the eye of Qatidah bin an-Nu`man to its place with his hand after it had slipped out, his spitting lightly into the eye of Ali
