John Fitzgerald Kennedy
Personality:
~ Humorous:
All of President Kennedy's staff and anyone who came in contact with him immediately noticed and were impressed by his sense of humor. This sense of humor was often sarcastic and "matter-of-fact" and could easily win him a battle of wits, while keeping everyone laughing and amused at the same time.
~ Arrogant:
President Kennedy was an extremely arrogant man. He could never be beat and would use whatever means necessary to make sure of that. He would lose his patience with anybody extremely fast if they couldn't keep up with him. If he wasn't kept amused, he would leave and expect everyone to follow, this happened several times while watching a movie with friends. He was always right and always the best and if you disputed that, you were in big trouble.
Political Career:
Kennedy's interest in politics started when he attended Harvard University. He wrote an honors paper on British Foreign Policy in the 1930s, which was published in 1940, the year of his graduation. In 1946, Kennedy ran for a seat in he House of Reps., and won. He remained in politics, supporting Harry S. Truman, the working class and had a very strong anti-communist stand, until he won the Presidency in 1960, marginally defeating Richard M. Nixon. He continued to stand for the working class; however most of the beneficial legislation he sought to pass got blocked in Congress and was left to LBJ when Kennedy was assassinated. He did try to stand successfully against communism, however failed in the Bay of Pigs invasion, and he properly took the blame for its failure. However, he was successful at several other anit-communist actions. The most remarkable thing that happened during JFK's presidency was the growth of the civil right movement, which he reluctantly supported. Till his death he had good ideas to help domestic issues that were primarily blocked by the more conservative congress.
Lifestyle:
President Kennedy was an extremely active, healthy, high-achieving, and intelligent man. Since his childhood he read and wrote early, he was unusually conscious about eating right and exercising. JFK generally excelled in school and was urged by his parents to do his best. His family was very well off and could afford to do anything to get him ahead. He was the second of nine children and despite all that competition, usually got his way. He was able to attend Princeton and Harvard where he once again excelled. After college he entered the Navy and began his political career in 1945, when he was discharged.
Foreign Policy:
President Kennedy was interested in foreign policy since high school and college. He was always adamant the USA's relations with other countries, and other countries relations with other countries. He opposed the allied powers stance with communist China, which was the single thing he ever disagreed with Truman on.
