Introduction
John Hopkins is a not for profit corporation and one of the most prestigious medical centers in the world. It opened its doors for patient care in 1889 and has been ranked number one in the nation by U.S. News and World Report for 22 years to include the most recent award in 2013. John Hopkins Hospital is headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland with outlying hospitals and clinics across the nation to include six universities and community hospitals, four suburban health care, and surgery center as well as forty primary and specialty care outpatient sites. According to its history, when John Hopkins opened its doors in 1889, its first university opened its doors four years later. This healthcare facility and school has impacted the lives of many in more ways than one. It is an interesting fact that John Hopkins Medicine has its many first achievements to include being the first hospital or health care center to use rubber gloves during surgery as well as developing renal dialysis and CPR. Its many accolades also includes receiving Magnet designation for excellence in Nursing practice.

John Hopkins Medicine is an eight billion integrated global health enterprise, and it is continuously on the rise. The impact that this healthcare enterprise has in each community is tremendous. For example, in Maryland, the economic impact for John Hopkins and its affiliates, directly and indirectly, is accounted for more than nine billion dollars and over eighty-five thousand jobs. With the operations in, Washington D.C. and Florida, the total economic impact is estimated at over ten billion dollars with close to one-hundred thousand jobs.
Human Resource Management
The Office of Human Resources at John Hopkins Medicine offers a wide range of personnel services for the current staff to include benefits, staffing support, and educational opportunities just to name a few. Human Resource Management mission is to provide reliable, consistent, and competent services for its employees and other customers.
Research and Development
The foundation of John Hopkins Medicine is research. “A mind-boggling and ever-expanding range of topics run from basic and clinical to translational research. Basic research provides a fundamental understanding of molecules and mechanisms that, without offering any apparent practical avenue for patient treatment, involves identifying cellular processes and genetic mutations and revealing breakdowns in cellular communication associated with all manner of diseases and disorders” (Flickr.
