COURSE TITLE: Managing Technology for Business Strategies

Course Description

Provides executive perspective on management information systems, systems analysis and database management. Develops an understanding of strategic issues underlying information systems technical issues in developing systems. Covers strategic issues related to critical business success factors. Includes information's role in competition, industry leadership, and business planning. Covers alternative development methods and addresses issues of databases, projected management, and functional management.

NOTE: Not for CIS, CS or CN majors. Cross listing(s): BA 479

Course Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to:

* Recognize the value of the partnership between business and Information Technology.

* Describe and use the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

* Discuss the implications of E-Commerce on business and Information Technology

* Identify the Enterprise Applications Model and how that model impacts business and Information Technology

* Analyze the collection and usage of data in a business organization.

* Identify the technology tools that assist in the decision making process of a business organization.

* Evaluate the changing landscape of telecommunications.

* Describe an Emerging Technology and how that technology impacts business and Information Technology.

This course is designed to use the 2007/2010 versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. Microsoft Office Professional 2007/2010 includes all these applications.

This is a good deal from MS for students versus having to pay the full Office Professional price of $499, and it includes the 2010 versions of MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, OneNote, Outlook, Publisher and Access. (NOTE: Regis is using the Office 2010 versions, so you might have some compatibility concerns if you also use the 2007 versions of these MS applications.)

Also, if you have ordered Office 2010 from a retailer but have not received it yet, you may wish to install a 30-day trial version of the software to complete your initial assignments. Download the trial software from Microsoft by following this link:
