1. What are some differences between matrilineal descent and patrilineal descent?

The most common descent group will be categorized to matrilineal and patrilineal.

In matrilineal descent society female has more power, but they don't keep the power only between themselves they share with their man. In matrilineal environment brothers are having power instead of the husbands. However women are more involve in society, they have to work harder. For example; in northeastern Arizona, Hopi Indians women hold a very important role in managing the group, but men had the right to offer her advice. Also women usually own the farm and their husband worked in the farm and if there were any problem between the family members the men from the female side of family would help them to solve it. In contrast patrilineal society male are the main character. In this society women conceder as a part of male belonging and if there were any problem with family father side would be there too help them out. This type of cutler mostly was spread around south of Asia or some part of North America and part of Africa.

2. How did the Clan appear and name some characteristic of Clan?

As time passed and lineages got larger and larger, it became hard to provide a good quality environment for their members. Therefore; fission happen and lineage divided in smaller group and from this division, a newer descent group appeared with larger member which is called Clan. Clans are usually considered as a non corporate descent grope and its member from a common ancestor. The down side of this group is that, their members don't know the genealogical links to that ancestor. Also Clans are very often

using totemism -using symbol or animals' name- to show the quality of their group.
