Kyle Maynard is a former high school wrestler from Georgia. Kyle struggled early in his career, his first season failing to even win a single match. By the time that Kyle graduated from high school he was a dominant force in the 103 pound weight division.
The reason that Kyle's story is so interesting is that he was born with deformed arms and legs. His arms ending in nubs just above the elbow, and his legs ending with deformed feet above a non-existent knee. Kyle has had to overcome adversity throughout his entire life simply to accomplish every day tasks such as getting around campus, using a computer, and even eating. It is purely amazing to watch this young guy type 30-40 words per minute on a standard keyboard without using fingers or hands, or elbows!
After completing his remarkable career as a high school wrestler he sought to take his talents further. Without receiving any major scholarships for wrestling he chose the University of Georgia to attend college. The college does not have a traditional wrestling team like many of the top colleges, however; they do have a wrestling club in which they do participate against other colleges, and for all intensive purposes is exactly like a real wrestling team.
Since his story has been gaining nationwide notice Kyle can be seen on HBO's Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel. In which Kyle's accomplishments are noticed and his daily life is shown very personally. He has begun traveling the country as a motivational speaker to the handicapped, as well as lots of others who seek to gain courage from his story. He has also begun a small modeling career, posing for labels like Abercrombie & Fitch.
A lot can be learned from Kyle Maynard's story. Most importantly the fact that nothing is impossible and anyone can truly accomplish anything as long as they set their mind to it.
