Lady Macbeth
Thesis: Lady Macbeth’s character is one which is usual to this time period, she pushes her husband to be the king, she manipulates her husband because he has very good morals and he wouldn’t kill the king otherwise. She is very ambitious, she is willing to put everything on the line for her husband to become king.
Body Paragraph:
Lady Macbeth is ashamed with femininity she feels that males have less emotions and better chance of succeeding, she tells the witches to take away her femininity.
“…Come you spirits. That tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here,
And fill me, from the crown to the toe, top full Of direst cruelty!...”
(I.v.43-45)
Lady Macbeth wants her feminine qualities to go away and her body to be taken over by evil and cruelty, this way she not feel any guilt toward the murder of the king, and she can also support the more feminine Macbeth. As the play progresses we see Macbeth standing up for his morals, he does not want to kill the king because the king is Macbeth’s Leader also his cousin. Lady Macbeth finds this very cowardly, “Art thou afeard to be the same in thine own act and valour As thou desire?” and argues that Macbeth made a promise and that she would keep a promise if she made one. After she explains how if she had made a promise to kill her own child that she would kill her own child rather than breaking that promise. “…dash’d the brains out, had I so sworn As you have done to this”(I.vii.63-64). This shows how vicious Lady Macbeth really is. Lady Macbeth is a very cunning and manipulative person.
