Lesson Plan Ð'- Careers Course
Standard:
Use a variety of resources to gather information about careers.
Grade Level:
Eighth or ninth grade, Business or Career Development course
Objectives of the lesson:
As a result of this lesson, students will become familiar with a variety of career options using multiple resources in their research. The lesson may require 2 class periods.
Rationale of the lesson:
Career development encompasses an individual's total life. It is vital that students know how to use resources made available to them to make informed decisions. This lesson will introduce them to resources available as they embark upon the quest for a career.
Materials and/or equipment needed:
Computer lab, LCD projector, dry erase/chalk board, word search, and Career Planning handout.

Assessment of Student Learning:
Word search
Detailed classroom discussion about interests, strengths, hobbies
Research of careers
In-class website searches
Students take notes
Discuss any questions about assignment
Students record assignment in course notebooks

Assignments and Reminders:
The following assignment will be written on the board and discussed in detail:
Ð'* Research careers using a minimum of 3 resources, one non-computer.
Ð'* Write a detailed description of a career which interests you.
Ð'* List education or training requirements for that career.
Ð'* Compare the resources you used. Did they provide you with valuable information and why or why not? For example, in your search did you learn about job opportunities, locations of jobs, salary?
