Re: Letter To The Editor Teachers can dock marks for late assignments I think it is totally ridiculous that up until now students have not been penalized for handing in late assignments. This is just another example of people not being responsible or accountable for their actions. As if kids don't have enough bad influences in their lives today given the state of our political system, television and video games and the actions of sports and entertainment figures that these kids idolize. Who is left to set a good example? If parents want schools to be baby-sitters to their children then I feel that these kids should be introduced to how the real world works as soon as possible. How do you think the parents would feel if the start of the school year was delayed or report cards were several weeks late because there was no reason to meet these deadlines? Is it only when it becomes an inconvenience to them that something will be done? Or what if they didn't get a pay cheque because the person responsible for signing them decided that watching MTV was more important at the time? Wake up and smell the mocha latte double cinnamon espresso people. These kids are going to be the ones signing your pay cheques, issuing report cards, and even serving you your coffee in the morning. So do we wait until this laissez-faire attitude starts to affect us all, or do we do something about it now? It is time for all people to wake up and realize that their actions effect more than just themselves before they find themselves standing in the Starbucks line for two hours because the waiter/waitress decided that discussing what was on television last night is much more important than my morning coffee.
